The series “TUC-PostDoc PRAXIS online” — “Postdocs from various universities share insights from their professional experience” — is a joint initiative of the graduate schools at the universities of Clausthal, Lüneburg, Münster, Jena, and Kiel. The series will run for the third time starting with the 2026–2027 winter semester, and once again, postdocs from Clausthal University of Technology will host the kickoff event.

Research-related positions outside of universities and non-university research institutions are high on the wish list of many researchers who transition from their university to a non-academic career after completing their doctorate and postdoc phase. Dr. Amke Eggers and Dr. Ann-Kathrin Klaas, both graduates of Clausthal University of Technology, have successfully made this transition and will discuss their career paths and share their personal experiences with those who still have this journey ahead of them.

Dr. Amke Eggers joined Sartorius at its Göttingen location in the product development department for filter technology and, after four years, advanced to the position of project manager. She was a research assistant at the Institute for Polymer Materials and Plastics Technology at Clausthal University of Technology and ultimately earned her Ph.D. at the Clausthal Center for Materials Technology.

After completing her doctorate at the Institute for Electrical Energy Engineering and Energy Systems, Dr. Ann-Kathrin Klaas moved to the Institute for Energy Economics (EWI) at the University of Cologne. In addition to traditional project management—which also includes supervising staff—her responsibilities there include securing research funding and advising public and private clients, such as associations, ministries, and companies.

After a brief introduction of themselves and their employers, the two researchers will share insights with participants into their work and their memories of the transition from Clausthal University of Technology. What surprised them in practice? What were they able to apply successfully? What would they do differently next time?
