For most students, the search for a suitable field of work in a company is on the agenda at the end of their studies or doctorate. Just like choosing a degree program that matches your interests and abilities at the beginning of your studies, choosing a company is a decision that needs to be well informed.

On November 13, 2025, the two Clausthal alumni Dr. Heike Busch (Head of Production Planning and Technical Logistics) and Dipl.-Math. Michael Hecht (Head of Process Models for Green Steel Transformation) from the AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke will present the company, the current challenges facing the steel industry and career entry opportunities at Dillinger Hütte.

As an integrated steelworks in Saarland, Dillinger Hütte has been producing heavy plate for over 300 years, from which offshore wind turbine towers, bridges, pipelines, oil rigs, ships and similar products are manufactured. For example, the Queen Mary 2 and the Öresund Bridge were built with steel from Dillingen. With a production capacity of around 2 million tons, Dillinger is the largest heavy plate plant in Europe.

In addition to graduates in metallurgy and materials science, skills in the fields of mathematics (production planning), computer science, economics, mechanical engineering and process engineering are required, especially against the background of digitalization and the transformation of the entire production process towards CO2-neutral manufacturing.

The lecture and subsequent discussion will begin on Thursday, November 13 at 5 p.m. in the cafeteria of the University Library (Leibnizstraße 2). All students, prospective graduates and researchers interested in the topic are cordially invited!
