Was that "just" a silly joke - or already sexist? Why does something like this happen at all? Where does everyday sexism begin - and how can we react appropriately without being perceived as oversensitive or exaggerated?

That's what we talk about - and that's what we practise.

This practice-oriented workshop is about recognizing everyday sexism, being aware of it and remaining capable of acting - for yourself and for others. As tutors, you have an important role model function and actively shape social interaction at our university. This makes it all the more important to be able to react sensitively and clearly to boundary violations.

Together with Verena Arps-Roelle and Sebastian Arps from the act & protect® Academy, the workshop provides in-depth knowledge and practical strategies for dealing with sexist situations in everyday life and in the university context. The focus is on your personal confidence - tailored to your individual role as a tutor.

Contents of the workshop:

  • Basics on forms and dynamics of everyday sexism
  • Self-awareness and sensitization to boundary violations
  • Practical techniques for maintaining emotional and physical boundaries
  • Practical response options - factual, clear, de-escalating
  • Options for action for those affected, observers and supporters
  • Empowerment and exchange of experiences in a safe space

The aim of the workshop is to strengthen you - in your attitude, your demeanor and your awareness of respectful interaction. You will be given methods to recognize and classify sexist statements and situations in everyday university life and to act appropriately - individually, reflectively and effectively.

The workshop offers a safe space in which you can try things out, exchange ideas and develop further - on a voluntary basis and without pressure to perform. In this way, we can work together to contribute to an open, respectful
