Career coaching for PhD-students and postdocs
This offer is aimed at doctoral students in the late phase of their doctorate, postdoctoral and habilitation students, and junior research group leaders who would like to gain more clarity in planning their career path.
Career coaching supports you in determining your professional position and goals as well as in sharpening your profile by reflecting on your own personality. It depends on you which main topic should be worked on, e.g. "structuring and planning of the scientific career path", "preparation for selection and appointment procedures", "how could I improve my rhetorical skills?", "acting successfully in committees", "building up networks" or "which leadership style suits me?". For successful coaching, you should bring openness and curiosity for new perspectives.
Participants choose a coach from our list of coaches according to their professional orientation, personal inclination or the main topic to be worked on. You can also make your own suggestions for coaches. The coaching sessions ideally take place in person, but can also take place via telephone or video conferencing systems if both sides agree.
The next round of career coaching starts in September 2022 and usually lasts 4-6 months. A flat fee is available for participants to receive individual coaching sessions with a coach of their choice. The number of possible coaching sessions may vary somewhat depending on the choice of coach(es) and the respective hourly rate. You arrange a first meeting with the coach of your choice. Afterwards, you decide whether you want to work on your issues with this/these coach or switch to another coach. It is also possible to use career coaching with different coaches, e.g. to work on different topics. In any case, please contact your graduate academy.
Before you start your coaching, you will receive a brief consultation on the process from the Graduate Academy. It is possible to cover any travel expenses incurred through the flat-rate expense allowance. However, this will reduce the lump sum available to you for coaching. Alternatively, you can cover the travel expenses yourself.
